abc's

Mommy was away in Colorado all week and missed Abigail (and Jamie) very much! So it was a treat (for mommy) to have a 6 am wake up call this morning from Abigail who was lying in bed singing the ABCs over and over. Later in the morning, we tried capturing the ABCs on film, but life interfered. We remain in pursuit of the full-version alphabet in video form.....

".... next time won't you sing with me!?"

ikea

We are slowly but surely transforming the room formerly known as the "office" into a "baby room" in anticipation of our soon-to-arrive new family member. (But we are not yet calling it the "baby room" or anything along those lines, for fear that could inspire some negative 2-year-old emotions given that many of her things are migrating into this room. Crib and changing table, we are talking about you.)

This room transformation involved a trip to IKEA last weekend . . . Abigail had a blast riding in the funny euro-carts, jumping on beds, sliding down slides, eating Swedish meatballs, asking a million questions, and helping us pick out this couch:

We hope Abigail is this happy when there are sleep deprived parents and a screaming infant sitting next to her on the couch!

Abby starts to think about mischief.

New couches are lots of fun.

soccer, sweaty, stamps

It was hot for soccertime last weekend! Mommy wisely took a pregnant pass and stayed home to fix dinner and wait for IKEA delivery to arrive. Abigail and Papa braved the steamy weather and came home sweaty and very proud of the smiley face stamps earned at the end of "practice".

You can also see Abigail's new shoes . . . which she loves. So much that sometimes we have sadness when it comes time to take them off. Life with a 2 year old is never dull.

Stamp close-up. We have learned that stamps do wash off in the bath after dinner, so they are a very temporary joy.

pooltime

Lots of fun pool-time lately in all of the hot weather . . . we forgot to take pictures when Georgia came over to splash around last weekend, but there are some great pictures on her blog!
Here, Abigail and Akaash take a dip.

Busy bees.

Abigail looks like she's up to no good . . . perhaps contemplating dumping water on her friend's head....

"This is curious. My ponytail doesn't usually hang in front of my face like this."

"Move aside ponytail, it's time for me to sneak a sip of water."
"Wet ponytail, I find you so fascinating and fun to play with."

just reading

Morning grins from Abigail . . . just sitting in the kitchen and reading.

bgb

Guess who's been sleeping in her big girl bed a lot lately??? In fact it's probably been over a week since A has slept in her crib. Here she is waking up from a nap:

Of course crib is not far away. We're still formulating a plan for how the crib might seamlessly make an exit from A's room, freeing up a little more floor space.

Abigail sings a wake up song. "I wake you up in the mooooorning!" This is not a familiar song to us, so either A made it up, or one of our faithful blog readers will name that tune.

imagination

One fun thing about Abigail these days is her very, very active imagination.... Here she is in the bathtub (sporting a fashionable bath hat!) "painting" - with water and a paintbrush - a picture on the side of the tub.

She narrated the whole thing... this was quite a masterpiece

Recently, outside of the tub, Abigail was playing with Po (and Po's new imaginary friend Zsah-zsy - spelling uncertain) and she was running to the kitchen to get an Elmo cup for them to drink juice out of. I hated to break it to her that we don't have an Elmo cup and she looked at me with a similar expression to below and said "Pretend mommy!"

Since then she has reminded both mama and papa several times to please pretend with her! Two other favorite Abigail-isms of late....

1) "Have you ever seen . . ." insert anything that is on Abigail's mind. When there was bird poop on our car windshield we had a conversation about that and Abigail's response to it all was "Have you ever seen a bird poop on the potty??" This phrase is repeated throughout the day with varying degrees of zaniness with the "have you ever seens..."

2) "Have you seen ... in a while?" When one of her stuffed friends or toys has gone missing she will earnestly look at you and ask "Have you seen Blue in a while????" when whatever she was looking for is found she'll say "I was JUST LOOKING for you!"

Back to the bath, Abigail very carefully fills up a bottle with water.

Lid-full by lid-full this project took quite a while....

getting our feet wet

Take that mosquitoes! We now have a screen room in the backyard! A nice way to spend a 90 degree day....

And inside the tent is a new little kiddie pool where we can keep our feet cool. Abigail loves the "job" of pouring water over feet and legs - sometimes she gets really enthusiastic and other body parts get wet too!

As per usual with new experiences, Abigail was a little slow to warm up to the idea of the pool... "You want me to get in it?" she seemed to be thinking.... "I think maybe I'll just sit carefully on the edge instead."

But once in, she didn't look back.

The next day we took a pause from pool time to go to Crate and Barrel. Abigail was impressed by the silverware selection. So many spoons!

But then we returned home for more splashing - this time we even wrestled Abigail into her new swimsuit bottoms!

Playing with water is SO EXCITING!

Abigail prepares to water mama and papa with her watering can.

And then, always ready to surprise us . . . Abigail asks to put on her swimsuit top! We all agree it looks very nice, and Abigail seems quite pleased.

There are also some special water shoes just waiting to be tried on (thank you cousin Natalie!)....but Abigail seemed to have reached her new experience quota for the day and preferred to hug the shoes and fill them with water instead. Check in again next weekend......
